21st July 2010,
The recent flood in Chhule village of Upper Tsum, Chhekampar-9, Gorkha district has completely damaged the main bridge connecting bordering area of Tibet, two houses including barn. As the flood came in the late afternoon there was no human casualty. The victim, Tenzin Chhembel whose house was swept away by the flood has been taking refuge in his neighbor’s house. He said, “My house is completely damaged and I am praying the God to protect all of us as there is another fear of bigger flood.” The glacial moraine and sand deposited in the confluence of the main river. This has blocked the river flow and further damaging the main trails.
The flood came from the nearby 200m falls originated from the massive snowcapped mountains. The precarious life in this harsh landscape of the Himalaya has further challenged by this recent flood. As most of the villagers depend on the supplies from Tibet there is no other way to connect them. The nearet motor head to Kathmandu is five days walk. The deposits have filled the river bed up to the level of village so 40 households are in vulnerable condition. The locals are working very hard to create control walls but there is a need of larger scale of flood control dam. The locals are asking any kind of help and support to protect the village.
The victim’s family is asking the necessary support to build his house. In this emergency moment, TWC is working as a co-ordinator to relay the message between the villagers and supporting partner.
Any kinds of helps, supports and praying are most welcome.
